Legalese-"The jargon
characteristically used by lawyers, especially in legal documents."
-Black's Law Dictionary
Hi there! My name is Libby
and I'm a law clerk for a state trial judge. I went to law school on the East Coast and graduated in 2019. Thankfully, I passed the bar exam on the first try and was sworn in as an attorney in 2019. In undergrad, I majored in Chemistry and
minored in business but during that experience, I decided that what really interested me was corporate
and business law. After reading plenty
of other blogs about law schools, I thought “Why not?” and started my own blog
about my experiences at law school. Right now, I'm still unsure where life will take me after I'm finished clerking but I'm looking forward to the journey.
As you can see the title of
my blog is based off of the term legalese and through my blog I want to show
you my own take on all of the “legalese” one encounters throughout law school. I hope you enjoy what I have to say. If you have a questions or think there is
something that I should discuss in a post, let me know and I’ll see what I can
do.
Nice, you have a Chemistry undergrad degree? That is a distinguishing feature amid a sea of those of us that graduated with degrees like economics, political science and international relations. Do you have a sense of what type of corporate and business law you want to practice? I had no idea when I was a 1L but then again you're more likely to figure it out at a law firm rather than law school.
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely what people told me throughout the process; it caught a lot of people's attention. I really enjoy intellectual property and the more administrative side of business law, but that could definitely change.
DeleteI found your blog looking for legal wardrobe tips and I'm excited to read every else! I'm in the summer of my 2L. And I am about to start my first internship in person (first internship was remote). Nervous for my third year and my internship but looking forward to reading your blog for good tips!
